I've been asked to discuss common sense rules when using public facilities. Libraries, to be exact, but you should also take note for when in public or even using restrooms to treat your surroundings as you would like to be treated, yourself. Or perhaps how you would like a loved one to be treated as I know some young people have such bad outlooks on themselves they might think something is good enough for them, when really, it's not.

The library is maintained to be clean, comfortable, and safe for reading, researching, studying, writing, and even having small group meetings. It is my understanding that Ms. Holmes would like to have book clubs, but that lately people have been very slack on the comfortable accommodations she has set up. Yes, there is coffee, snacks, and a row of computers. No, you shouldn't eat caramel popcorn while reading a public book or typing on the keyboard of a communal computer. Common sense, please.

Disorderly conduct, unreasonable noises, smoking, littering, and not wearing all of your clothing are major offenses.

I've instructed Ms. Holmes to hand out detentions to anyone who violates her terms (instead of the warnings she has gave in the past), which I believe she is posting on the mobile chalk board she has near her desk when you enter. For her own sanity, and for the staff and those who like the library for what it is, please try to be kind, careful, and use common sense.

attention students

I'm going to be holding a support group in the library all day for anyone who needs to talk. I suggest if you are feeling particularly upset, confused, or shocked that you come by. As a group we can manage through this together, rather than individually letting it eat us up from the inside.

And there will be comfort food as well as hugs.

This is just a reminder that my office is open at all times. I fear with the first week of school over that some new students are having a hard time adjusting. I'm going to suggest meetings in the library every Thursday afternoon for anyone who wants a group session to discuss changes in their lives. This extends not just to new students, but everyone.

I was cleaning my office for a healthy stress relief (something everyone should be doing; cleaning. I've seen some of the dorms you keep and it would all be in everyone's best interests to live in a more clean and healthy environment) and I found quite a few neon colored pieces of gum stuck underneath of the new couch. I am not sure how angry I should be about this.

It's a new couch.
It's just a couch.
Students are lazy.
How am I so sure it's a student?

My conclusion is that I'm going to give a warning. No more gum when you enter my office. If this happens again, now that I know to look, I will be having the gum analyzed by a Psychometric and reprimanding those responsible.
